ABILITY asked skilled nursing professionals about the challenges and rewards in their work. Here’s what they told us:
What are your biggest challenges?
Speaker 1: The biggest challenges we face are everything's changing all the time.
Speaker 2: Billing is where it's at for me and our company. I have to be able to make sure that all our bills get out and our expected reimbursement is calculated to the penny and I know what to expect to be paid. So to make sure there's no overpayments or underpayments.
Speaker 3: You’re dealing with so many families from so many social settings, so many economic backgrounds… trying to find the right payer source for financial, the right payer source to help them.
Speaker 4: I think across the industry the whole "doing more with less" is always a challenge and trying to find ways to be creative to still get everybody on board and to be efficient, effective, and enjoy what they do; be proud of their work at the end of the day.
Speaker 5: The biggest challenge right now is staffing.
Speaker 4: And trying to figure out how to do it all with what you've got… and the little support we get from the government, trying to make that the most in our days.
Speaker 1: We're constantly being challenged to step up to the plate and take care of business.
What are the rewards?
Speaker 1: What I like best about working in the healthcare field and particularly in the nursing home and long term care industry is that I can make a difference in someone’s life every day. We have a chance to interact with the elderly and make a difference for them, and that just gives you a rewarding feeling.
